Martin - Major Wilderness Timber Donator

Tuesday 9 November 2010 - -

Benniboy and Nh were looking for ads online that were giving away timber, specifically crate pallets. Nh found a local timber advert. The guy had 20 pallets and wanted to get rid of them, he was located in Radlet - his name was Martin.

Benniboy sent him a message just before the ad was expiring. He replied a couple of days later and said he had loads left and would be happy to give them to us. We arranged to meet Tuesday or Wednesday, he said he wouldn't be there on Tuesday, so we decided to go then.

Benniboy came from uni and Nh came from work. We found the main estate, but found it hard finding Hill Croft. We went down the road Google Maps had showed us, we knocked on No. 3. An old lady came to the door, she had no idea what we were talking about, obviously we were in the wrong street.

We walked back to the miata and had a drive around, Nh suddenly saw the street, it was a little private road. We drove through the gates and down a hill. There were 4 big houses, we found No. 3. It was a large house, about double the size of our houses. We could see all the crates around the back on the left. We excitedly walked over and admired the stack of crates.

This was the main stack, there were 4 more crates near the skip, and some more next to the stack. We got stuck in and started dismantling a crate with balbu type planks and big blocks. During the dismantle we were questioned by a muggle neighbour. He was just checking what we were doing, we explained and he understood. He laughed at the miata, but we said once we had dismantled them, we could get at least 2 in the boot.

We had almost taken the first one apart, then we heard a car. It was Martin. He had a big BMW 4x4. He had 2 junior treeswingers in the back, one was a baby, the other a young girl. We surprised him and said we were working on a crate, he was very nice and even offered tools.

We finished the first crate, then got another -  quickly dismantled it. It was getting dark and cold, so we got one more crate, dismantled it. We wrapped up 4 batches, plus one for blocks. We managed to fit 2 batches and the blocks in the miata. The others had longer planks and just didn't quite fit.

We knocked on his door and thanked him. He aked where we lived, then he offered to deliver some crated to our houses - crazy. We said we were fine dismantling. We went and got the fiesta. We got the 2 larger batches on the back seats.

Nh had barely any petrol left, so we went back to the BP garage, Nh quickly went home and got some money. Benniboy got some food, whiled he waited. Nh put exactly £15 in - skillful. We then went past the Wreck route, as it was rush hour and Nh had to queue just to get into the petrol station.

We arrived at the wilder. Took the 2 batches, tools and blocks out of the miata. We carried them to the treehouse and left them at the base. We retrieved the lsat 2 batches from the fiesta. Theses were heavier, mainly structure planks.

Nh climbed the treehouse, while Benniboy went for a toilet break. Benniboy saw the little stick hut, it had been worked on more, it was thicker now. We ascended the batches up the treehouse, the heavy ones being a bit of a struggle. We put some of the batches on level 2. We have a lot of timber now, for once we have more than we can use. Nh noticed that the 2 flags, that were used to hold a big plank in while hammering, were covered in small spiders. He smacked them off with a planks, but also smacked the broken headlight off, is fell to the ground.

We used some long planks to add more to one of the south side walls. We added 4, there is only a small gap at the top now, will be finished for the aesthetics, cold and rain protection. We added 2 planks to the opposite wall. We then used some shorter planks to ad 4 more to the south wall. During this we hear a guy shout something, could have been from the road, but sounded like he was in the wilder. We paused and couldn't see anyone.

We put some more timber on level 2. We packed up and descended. We managed to find the headlight. We took some of the useless timber and donated it to the stick hut. We then evacuated the wilder.
