17mph, 20mph and 140mph

Thursday 23 December 2010 - -

Ali G and Benniboy went to the wilder today. We both arrived at exactly the same time, around 3pm. We went into the wilder and checked the sapling castle. Now that all the leaves were gone, you could easily see the structures up the sapling. It wasn't too obvious, could be mistaken for branches. The treeswing there had a big log in it hanging to the ground.

We then checked the treeswings. The original was still there and the trianlge one was thrown up.

We checked the treehouse. It looked good. Will be really good when the north corner gaps are complete and the top of the east wall.

We deployed back to the miata. Then drove to the car park. There was a car at the back. We did some drifting and donuts. Ali G recorded some in car videos:

We stopped, a couple of dog walkers parked next to us. We listened to some music on Ali G's speaker, it was loudest at the front of the car. We tried syncing it with the car speakers. It then ran out of battery. Benniboy tried getting the speedo to the top speed. He floored it and we didn't move much, went up the gears, we were at 140mph in under 5 seconds, but we only move a few metres.

We then deployed to the parking space, got the sledges and went to the golf course. Instead of going straight to the usual slopes, we went towards the golf course road. There was a short, but fast slope that went to a jump, followed by a sandpit ditch- covered in snow. The hill seemed really slippery, quite icy.

We both zoomed down it and misssed the big jumps at first. Then Benniboy aimed at the jump on a bum sledge, he flew very high and pulled the sledge out and landed not to hard. We then took turns on each sledge, we tried to go to the right side and drift around the top of the ditch. Benniboy manages it, it was easier on the bum sledges.

We then went to the usual slopes. Beniboy went down the steep one on a bum sledge, while measuring the speed on his phones GPS. He got up to 14mph, as the hill was mainly steep and didn't actually go far horizonally, didn't sow proper speed.

Next we went up the big slope. Benniboy went on the bum sledge and Ali G on the big red sledge. We went about the same speed. Benniboy measured a top speed of 16mph. We tried both going in the big red, but couldn't get past 17mph. We crashed once too.

One time Benniboy was almost breaking a speed record on the bum sledge, but then he did a spin and went backwards for a while, then stopped. Ali G was coming down fast on the big red, he was going straight towards Benniboy, Benniboy just got out of the way in time.

Benniboy tried the big red sledge, he lay down on it to spread the weight and stop wind drag. He shooted down, trying to read the speed, while going over all the bumps. It went past the 17mph mark, 18, 19, 20!

So the current top speeds are:

Bum sledge = 16mph
Big red sledge = 20mph

We left it at that for the day. The treeswingers will meet after Christmas.
